Dear Rookie,
Starting a new job feels like opening a mystery box – you’re excited, slightly terrified, and have no idea what’s inside.
And the real struggle? No one gives you the unspoken rulebook – the things you don’t learn in college and the mistakes you don’t see coming until you’ve already made them.
Things I’ve learnt the hard way:
Your work won’t speak for itself. You have to speak for it. Otherwise, someone will repeat what you just said in a meeting and somehow get all the credit.
Ask questions early and often. Nodding like you understand doesn’t work forever. Eventually, someone will ask you a question.
Health is non-negotiable. One all-nighter makes you feel like a hero. Three in a row, and your laptop isn’t the only thing crashing.
So, here’s a question – what’s one thing you wish you knew before you started?
Been thinking about this a lot – and one of the reasons I’ve been writing all the “Dear Rookie” posts.
Turns out, there’s more to say .
Stay tuned.
